Help Preserve a Hero's Story
A legacy memoir for every fallen soldier and terror victim whose family asks us to tell their story.
Every fallen soldier was someone's child. Every terror victim was a whole world. Behind each name on a memorial wall is a whole life — and a family afraid that life will fade with time. We turn interviews, memories, photographs, and archival material into a hardcover tribute book — researched, illustrated, reviewed by the family, and delivered as a gift in their loved one's memory.
Tax-deductible
Founded and run by active reservists — but don't worry, WhatsApp us and someone on our team will reply.

Why this exists
A book a grandchild can read.
Bereaved families fear, every day, that the world will forget. A tribute book is not a eulogy — it is a record. One Israeli life, told in full, on a shelf, in a child’s hands.
How a hero book is made
Four months. Four stages.
A complete legacy memoir — written, illustrated, reviewed, and printed — built in partnership with the family who carries the loss.
Step 1
Family interviews
Two to three interviews with parents, a spouse, grown children, siblings, and friends — face to face or on Zoom. We listen, transcribe, and shape a narrative the family recognizes.
Step 2
Archival research
Photographs, letters, unit history, school yearbooks, workplace stories, hobbies and side passions, music a person loved, Hebrew-language sources. We work with the family’s own archive — service years and all the years beside them — and supplement where helpful. For those who weren’t serving, the archive is the whole life.
Step 3
Custom illustration
Cinematic, custom comic-book illustration across the full book. Faces, places, and uniforms checked against family reference.
Step 4
Hardcover delivery
Matte-finish hardcover printing. Ten copies delivered to the family in Israel, free of charge. Donor copies ship in parallel.

US donations are received and receipted by Smiles for the Kids (501(c)(3), EIN 33-2583266) via Givebutter. Israeli and UK donations are received and receipted by The Ari Fuld Project via IsraelGives.

Choose a hero
From co-sponsor and up — you can choose who your book honors.
Some donors already have someone in mind: a friend, someone they served with, a name they’ve carried for years. Others want to honor a fallen soldier or terror victim who shared something with their bar/bat mitzvah child — a sport, an instrument, a city, a unit. And many donors specifically ask to sponsor a hero whose family is unlikely to be sponsored otherwise. Tell us at checkout, or write to us first — we will match you to a family that has opted in.

Questions
Frequently asked.
Is my gift tax-deductible?
Yes — in the US, Israel, and the UK. US donations route through Givebutter to Smiles for the Kids, a 501(c)(3) public charity (EIN 33-2583266), and you receive a US tax receipt. Israeli and UK donations route through IsraelGives to The Ari Fuld Project; Israeli donors receive a תעודה לפי סעיף 46, and UK donors receive a Gift Aid–eligible receipt where applicable.
What does a hero tribute book actually contain?
A full-length legacy memoir — cinematic illustration, professionally researched narrative, matte-finish hardcover printing — built in partnership with the hero’s bereaved family. Ten hardcover copies are delivered to that family as a gift.
Who chooses which hero is honored?
We work only with bereaved families who have opted in. If you indicate a specific fallen soldier or terror victim at checkout, we do our best to match — and we contact that family for permission before any work begins. Every book is approved by the family, never a eulogy.
What if I want my gift to honor a specific person?
Add the name and any context at checkout. We will reach out to that family to ask permission, and your dedication is printed on the inside cover of the book your gift underwrites. Where a direct match is not possible, we apply your gift to the next book in production and notify you when it is matched.
What books do I receive at each level?
Every donor receives books. $36 → digital edition. $180 → one softcover. $900 → two hardcovers + donor-page dedication. $1,800 → five hardcovers + inside-cover dedication. $3,600 → ten hardcovers + inside-cover dedication of both books your gift sponsors. All print-tier donors get unlimited digital access to the hero-book library.
How does the $900 co-sponsorship work?
Two co-sponsors at $900 each together fully fund one hero tribute book. We aim to pair co-sponsors within 30 days. If a second co-sponsor has not joined yet, your gift remains designated toward the next fully funded hero book — it is never held indefinitely.
Where does the money go?
Production (interviews with the hero’s family, archival research, custom illustration, hardcover printing, free shipping of the gifted set in Israel) and program operations. Fund custody and receipting are handled by Smiles for the Kids (US, via Givebutter) and The Ari Fuld Project (IL / UK, via IsraelGives).
What does the bereaved family pay?
Nothing. The book is a gift to the family. Sponsors fully fund production, and ten hardcover copies are delivered to the family in Israel free of charge — the family decides who receives them and how the story is shared.
What do you need from me as a donor to get started?
Just the gift, via Givebutter (US) or IsraelGives (IL / UK). You will receive an emailed receipt and a project update at each milestone — interviews complete, first draft illustrations, family review, printing, shipping. If you want to dedicate the gift to a specific hero or honoree, you can add that at checkout. No paperwork on your end.
How much of the family’s time does this take?
Two to three interviews (about 60–90 minutes each, face-to-face or on Zoom), plus a few rounds of draft review by email or WhatsApp. Total time investment is roughly six to ten hours, spread across four months. Families can pause at any point and resume when they’re ready — every book moves at the family’s pace.
Can the family choose the art style and tone of the book?
Yes. Early in the process we share style references and sample pages, and we adjust to what feels right — warm and cinematic, quieter and more documentary, or something in between. The family reviews every page draft and approves the final book before printing.
What language are the books written in?
English by default. Hebrew editions are produced on request, in partnership with the family. Some books are bilingual — English narrative with Hebrew quotations, letters, signage, and dedications preserved in the original. The family’s voice and language preferences guide the final mix.
How long does it take from gift to finished book?
Roughly four months end-to-end for a fully sponsored book — about three weeks of interviews and archival research, six weeks of illustration and narrative drafting, three weeks of family review and revisions, and two weeks of printing and shipping. Books in pooled production (smaller gifts) join the queue and may take longer depending on funding pace.
Are the books suitable for children and grandchildren to read?
Yes. Every book is life-focused, not death-focused — it tells how the hero lived, what they loved, who shaped them. There is no graphic content. Most families read the book aloud with children and grandchildren; it is built to be inherited.
Can I sponsor anonymously?
Yes. At checkout you can opt out of the program honor wall and the donor-page listing. If you would like a dedication printed in the family’s copies, you can request that without your name appearing publicly. Your tax receipt is unchanged.
Are there processing fees or hidden costs?
Donations go through Givebutter (US) or IsraelGives (IL / UK); both platforms charge standard payment-processor fees (typically 2–4%, which you can optionally cover at checkout so 100% of your intended gift reaches the program). There is no subscription, no recurring charge, and no upsell.
